Delgado Sets Mets Record!

June 28, 2008 in baseball

Carlos Delgado sets a mets record by driving in 9 RBI’s in a bronx series versus the yanks.

Delgado had a two-run double off Edwar Ramirez in the 5th, a grand slam in the 6th and another home run off LaTroy Hawkins in the 8th. Yes, if you do the math correctly, that is 9 RBI’s in a 4 inning span.

The Mets beat the Yankees 15-6.

“I got lucky,” said Delgado, who turned 36 on Wednesday. “Every time I came up it seems like they had a lot of guys on base so I got some good pitches to hit and I was able to drive them.”

The World's Greatest Athletes?

June 26, 2008 in athletes, Uncategorized

Wall Street Journal names top athletes

First off, why a money magazine naming the greatest athletes? Do they even know anything about sports? After seeing the wall street journal’s list of the worlds best athletes, I am not so sure that they should be allowed in the sports world.

Maybe it was they judges they chose. All the judges were not really related to sports. They had an exercise scientist, a chairman of the Sports Science Department at Colorado College, and orthopedic surgeon, and 2 personal trainers. Where are the sports reporters, announcers, and other players that interact with sports starts every day?

Here is the list of the greatest athletes this year, according to wsj.com:

1) Roman Sebrle-Decathlete

2) LeBron James-NBA Basketball

3) Floyd Mayweather-boxer

4) LaDainian Tomlinson-NFL Football

5) Roger Federer-Tennis

6) Sidney Crosby-NHL Hockey

7) Liu Xiang-110-meter hurdler

8 ) Jeremy Wariner-400 meter sprinter

9) Ronaldo de Assis Moriera-FC Barcelona/Brasil

10) Alex Rodriguez-MLB Baseball

Where is Tiger Woods? Where is Kobe Bryant? You cannot tell me that LeBron is that much of a better athlete that Kobe. A few of the top ten names maybe. Mayweather is an animal. Tomlinson is untouchable (Reppin SD!). Ronaldinho looks like he has duct tape attached to his feet. These names I can understand.

Who is Lui Xiang? How does running 1 lap around a track make you one of the greatest athletes? I love Jeremy Wariner don’t get me wrong. He is the best in the world at what he does, but is running a lap makes you a better athlete than being a Running back, or a basketball. Team sports are more dynamic and require a lot more than individual sports, and most of the names on WSJ.com list are individual sports.

Where are the women? Is wall street journal implying that we have no great women athletes? I would love to see any of these athletes play volley ball against misty may, or play tennis against the Venus or Serena.

Basically, i am not a fan of the WSJ.com top ten list. So I am making my own. Let me know who your top ten is. I will create a list of the True Top 10 Athletes in the World. Leave a comment with the athletes that you think should be in this list.

New suit leads to new world records

June 25, 2008 in Uncategorized

Speedo has a new swimsuit called the LZR Racer. Swimmers who have worn this suit has lead to 38 new world records since its introduction. Whether that number is truly remarkable is a matter of debate, given Speedo’s commanding market share and the long history of world records getting broken in the runup to the Olympics. But the current perception of the new suit has created insecurity among swimmers sponsored by other brands.

Now, other brands that compete with Speedo are upset because their athletes are winning all the records. If NIKE, and adidas, and Mizuno do not come up with new designs, they will lose their athletes.

Morgan Hamm to join his brother at the Olympics.

June 23, 2008 in Uncategorized

Morgan Hamm was selected for U.S. men’s gymnastics team for the Beijing Games.

Morgan tore his chest muscle 8 months ago, so he was excited to be going.

“It was just a huge weight off my shoulders, relief. I feel like I’ve had to overcome a lot of obstacles to get here. … It just makes it that much more sweet.”
Morgan joins his brother Paul (rehabbing a broken hand, but should be ready to go at the Olympics) on the team going to China. Although the China team is highly favored, the Americans are expected to make a run for a medal.
